OVERVIEW
Towards the south west of center Kathmandu, lies the third highest hill summit surrounding the Kathmandu valley i.e. Champadevi hill (2285 m.) in the district of Makwanpur, which is amongst the best short hiking trails around the valley. Champadevi hill is one of the twin peaks of a fishtail that rears up in the Chandragiri hill range.
The eastern peak is Champadevi, who got its name after goddess Champadevi and the western peak hasn’t been named yet although it is used as a ridge trail to connect Champadevi to Bhimasankhar peak. The hike to Champadevi is purely a natural and an organic experience to the hiker, as it offers a scenic jungle view, followed by the spectacular views of the mountain ranges and a bird’s eye view of all 4 towns of the valley including Kritipur.
When walking, you’ll be seeing Buddhist stupas and Hindu shrines on the trails that add up to the spirituality of the hike. You’ll experience the serenity of nature, the climate and the visuals during this short trip. The best preferred season for the hike is September- December and March- May of the year.
