OVERVIEW

Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha is a most sacred pilgrimage site to the Buddhists around the world. The UNESO World Heritage site is located 330 kms far towards the southwest of Kathmandu. The religious and cultural site is spread over 1.95 hectares of land and consists of 62 archeological sites which mark the various events in Buddha’s life. 

The top attractions are Mayadevi temple (the spot where Mayadevi gave birth to Gautam Buddha), the Bodhi tree (marks the enlightenment obtained by Buddha at Bodh Gaya under a Bodhi tree), Puskarini pond (also known as Mayadevi pond, this marks the spot where Buddha was given his first bath), Ashoka pillar (the six meters tall pillar was built to mark the visit of Indian Emperor Ashoka to the religious site in the third century), World Peace pagoda (built by Japan, the 21st century monument is symbol of world peace and major tourist attraction), Lumbini museum (Lumbini Museum displays about 12000 artifacts including religious manuscripts, metal sculptures, Terra cottas, coins from Maurya and Khusana dynasty and stamps from all over the world depicting Lumbini), Royal Thai Buddhist monastery (built the Royal family of the Kingdom of Thailand that depicts Thailand’s belief and respect towards Buddhism and the birth place of their God), Dharma Swami Maharaja Buddha vihar (built by his Eminence Chogya Trichen Rinpoche, the guru introduced Buddhism into Tibet, more than six hundred monks reside here and Tara pooja is performed each day), Sri Lankan monastery, Cambodian monastery, Myanmar Golden temple, Zhong Hua Chinese Buddhist monastery, Korean temple, Tilaurakot (ancient remains of Tilaurakot Palace and ancient city of Kapilvastu where Buddha spent 29 years of his life), Lumbini Monastic site, Lumbini Crane Sanctuary, Manang Samaj stupa, Vietnam Phat Quoc Tu temple, Great Drigung Lotus stupa, and Thrangu Vajra Vidya Monastry.  

This day tour will provide you with insight regarding the philosophy of Buddhism, the history of ancient Kapilvastu, Buddha’s life, the religious and historical importance of the place, and the today’s state of the city and the initiatives taken to preserve and grow the authenticity of the Heritage site.

ITINERARY

  • 08.00hrs: Pick up from the hotel and drive to the Heritage site.

    The driver will be at the lobby 10 minutes before 08.00 to receive. Bring your necessities during the day and join the tour.
  • 08.30hrs: Visit to the Mayadevi temple and its surroundings along with international monasteries.

    We’ll visit to the famous Mayadevi temple, the Bodhi tree, Mayadevi pond, Ashoka pillar followed by the international monasteries built by the global community to pay their belief and respect towards Buddhism i.e. Royal Thai Buddhist monastery, Dharma Swami Maharaja Buddha vihar), Sri Lankan monastery, Cambodian monastery, Myanmar Golden temple, Zhong Hua Chinese Buddhist monastery, Korean temple, Lumbini Monastic site, Manang Samaj stupa, Vietnam Phat Quoc Tu temple, Great Drigung Lotus stupa, and Thrangu Vajra Vidya Monastery.
  • 11.30hrs: Visit Lumbini Museum, World Peace pagoda and Crane Sanctuary.

    After visiting the monuments built by the international communities it’s time to visit the Famous World Peace pagoda which is the symbol of World peace and prosperity. After this we’ll visit the Lumbini museum which has been able to keep the authenticity and history by preserving them and attracting thousands of visitors. We’ll also visit the Lumbini Crane Sanctuary.
  • 13.00hrs: Lunch at a local restaurant.

    We’ll have our lunch at a local restaurant and prepare ourselves to depart for Tilaurakot.
  • 14.00hrs: Drive to Tilaurakot.

    Tilaurakot is located 55 kms west of Lumbini and it takes an hour drive to reach there.
  • 15.00hrs: Visit the remains of the ancient Tilaurakot palace and ruins of the city.

    It is believed that Gautam Buddha has spent 29 years of his life here in Tilaurakot. There are still remains of the ancient palaces, villages and roads of the ancient times. We can witness the Fortification wall, the four gates, Kanthaka stupa, northeast pond, Samaidevi temple, metal workshop and ancient roads dating back to 6-7th century.
  • 17.00hrs: Drive back to the hotel in Lumbini.

    After we finish the sightseeing of the ancient city of Tilaurakot, we’ll drive back to our hotel in Lumbini.
