OVERVIEW
Towards the northwest of Kathmandu, lies a conserved part of the Shivapuri Nagarjuna national park known as the Nagarjuna hill or jungle. Nagarjuna hill is 2128 meters high with dense green forest spread over known as Raniban. The region is rich in its flora, fauna and plant spices. The most common animals that are encountered during the hike are Monkeys, Wild boars and Deer. Nagarjuna hill got its name from Acharya Nagarjuna from India, who meditated here for enlightenment. The hill was known as Jamacho earlier. It is also known as Vindya Mountain.
The most famous attractions here are the Nagarjuna cave, where Acharya resided during his meditating days. There is another cave known as the Mahasiddhas cave, also a cave dedicated to Buddhism as you can see the player flags chanting in the air. The Jamacho view point and monastery is at the top and offers the view of Nuwakot, the mountain ranges and the valley including Swayambhunath. Also, the former Royals of Nepal reside at the Nagarjuna palace located inside Raniban. Nagarjuna hill could be the best choice for a short hike experience to the Valley residents and tourists willing to experience these beautiful trails witnessing the Himalayas.
