OVERVIEW

Phulchoki (The hill of Flowers), is one of the four hills surrounding the Kathmandu valley, 14 kms south east of Kathmandu. Phulchoki is the highest hill surrounding the valley and stands 2782 meters above the sea level and got its name from the residing goddess Phulchoki mai. This is one of the most popular destinations for short hikes and weekend trips among youngsters in the valley. Also, it is famous pilgrimage among Hindus mostly women and children to witness Phulchoki mai. Scenic jungle of dark and red rhododendrons, oaks, pine and Fir trees adds the beauty of the trails. The panoramic view of the Annapurna, Manaslu and Ganesh himal are beyond breathtaking. Also, this is one among favorite destinations among bird watchers. Long- tailed drongos, Greater- yellow nape, Grey- headed woodpecker, Nepal cutia, Ultramarine flycatcher, Black- winged cuckoo shrike, Rufous-gorgeted, Flycatcher, Rufous-bellied Niltava, Yellow-browed Tit, Chestnut-headed Tesia, Red-billed Leiothrix, Whiskered Yuhina, Besra, etc. 

This is the only place surrounding Kathmandu valley that receives regular Snowfall during the winters.

ITINERARY

  • 08.00 hrs: Drive to Godawari.

    The vehicle arrives at your hotel 10- 15 minutes earlier to 08.00 am. Meet the driver at the lobby and start the journey. It takes 1 hour to reach Godawari.
  • 09.00hrs: Begin hike from Godawari to the top of Phulchoki hill watching breathtaking views.

    We’ll start our hike from Godawari, which is a very famous Botanical garden later named as the place. We will walk through the dense rhododendron, Oak, Pine and Fir forest listening to the creeping birds and animals on the trails. The hike will usually take three hours to the top and the way is not easy, yet the view from the top is worth the effort. The panoramic views of the Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh and Gaurisankhar himal are spectacular. During the month of March/ April, one can witness the month long annual festival held at the Shrine of Phulchoki mai. Also, some other festivals are also celebrated with high significance during the full moon night of July and August. The shrine of goddess Phulchoki and the trails at the hilltop are decorated with prayer flags and tridents.
  • 13.00hrs: Lunch at the top of the hill.

    There’s an army canteen at the top of the hill that offers tea, water, some snack, noodle soups etc. we’ll enjoy our meals and could take a nap to restore energy for to descend downhill.
  • 14.00hrs: Descend down the trail towards Godawari through dense forest rich in Birds and wildlife.

    After finishing our lunch and a short nap, we will walk down the trail towards Godawari, listening to birds sounds and the jungle.
  • 17.00hrs: Drive back to Kathmandu.

    Once we descend down, you could choose to visit the Godawari botanical garden on your own if you wish to. The entry fees would be Nrs. 200 per person. We will take a taxi back to the hotel.
