Trip Overview

Towards the southwest of central Kathmandu, lies the third highest hill summit surrounding the Kathmandu valley i.e. Champadevi hill (2285 m.) in the district of Makwanpur, which is amongst the best short hiking trails around the valley. Champadevi hill is one of the twin peaks of a fishtail that rears up in the Chandragiri hill range.

The eastern peak is Champadevi, who got its name after the goddess Champadevi and the western peak hasn’t been named yet although it is used as a ridge trail to connect Champadevi to Bhimasankhar peak. The hike to Champadevi is purely a natural and organic experience to the hiker, as it offers a scenic jungle view, followed by the spectacular views of the mountain ranges and a bird’s eye view of all 4 towns of the valley including Kritipur.

When walking, you’ll be seeing Buddhist stupas and Hindu shrines on the trails that add up to the spirituality of the hike. You’ll experience the serenity of nature, the climate, and the visuals during this short trip. The best preferred season for the hike is September- December, and March-May of the year.

The driver picks you up from the hotel at 08.00 am. Be ready by the time with your hiking tools and step ahead to explore the serenity of the day in Champadevi. We’ll drive to Pharping, a small town located at the Dakshinkali municipality approximately 23 Km away from Kathmandu. The place is famous for Nepal’s first and Asia’s second Hydro power plant and Dakshinkali temple that is 1 Km south from Pharping.
We’ll begin to climb uphill gradually for half an hour towards the north ridge of Champadevi hill and we’ll walk further for 2 hours to reach the top of ridge through dense forest. A major part of the hike is along the ridge which offers majestic view of the hills and mountain ranges and a bird eye elevation of all cities within the valley. The major mountain ranges to offer the view are Langtang himal, Gauri Sankhar himal, Jugal himal and Dorge Lakpa himal. You also will enjoy the elevated view of Bagmati river, Bungmati village, Khokana, Pharping and the road to Dakshinkali. The Vantage point offers the view of Pulchoki and Chandragiri hill ranges. Also, visit the Champadevi goddess temple.
Lunch at the top of the hill watching breathtaking views.
After finishing our lunch, we could take a quick nap to re- energize ourselves for the descent. On the way back, you feel relieved hearing the sound of Birds, floras and faunas. Sometimes you also might encounter a meeting with less harmful wildlife. Also you could visit the famous Buddhist monastery on the way back to Hattiban.
You also could choose to see Tau daha while driving back to Kathmandu.
