Trip Overview

Pisang Peak Climbing is one of the strenuous yet thrilling trekking routes that exist in the Annapurna region of Nepal. The trip is a fabulous combination of an adventurous road trip, challenging trek and fascinating flight over the Himalayas. Pisang Peak, also known as Jong Ri, is an exquisite peak with an altitude of 6,091m. This climbing trek will take you to the peak of this mountain, which is also the highest elevation of the trip, and bless your eyes with the majestic landscapes around the Annapurna Circuit trek route.

This mountain was first climbed in 1995 by a German expedition team. Since then, scores of climbers and trekkers have already been at its peak. The trip begins with a drive from Kathmandu to the Lamjung district. The place where you start walking differs and can be chosen for your interest. We join the Annapurna Circuit trek route and trek along. After passing Chame, our path diverts from the circuit trek and heads north towards Upper Pisang, Pisang Peak Base Camp, High Camp, and finally the top of the mountain. After ascending to the summit, we then start climbing down and head towards Muktinath. On the way, we cross Thorong La, which is the highest pass in the world. Then we reach Jomson and take a flight back to Pokhara from where we again fly to Kathmandu.

The views of the Annapurna Ranges, Dhaulagiri, Gangapurna, Tilicho, and many other mountain peaks and landscapes will let you speechless with the beauty they unfurl. Visiting Jomson and Muktinath adds to the religious and spiritual experience on the trip. You will also be able to learn more about the lifestyles in upper Himalayan regions of the country and see how the facilities and services differ from those areas which are situated in the southern part of the country, and easily accessible.

Similar to any other high altitude trek route in Nepal, the perfect season to do this trek route is spring (Feb-May) and autumn (Sept.-Dec). Because winter causes heavy snowfall, it blocks our trail and even causing life-threatening problems and summer causing unpredictable weather situations.

After all the briefings regarding the trek and acquainting necessary permits, we will arrange a short trip to a few UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the city such as Pashupatinath Temple, Swayambunath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa and so on. A quick stroll in the streets of Kathmandu and last minute gear shopping is a perfect thing to do in the evening.
It is going to be a long day of a drive from Kathmandu; about 9 hours. We will drive to Besisahar which is approximately 173 km west of Kathmandu. We will be doing this road trip in Prithvi Highway; this highway allows you to travel through beautiful landscapes and adventurous road with twists and turns. We can also see various towns and villages during our drive. We can also see rafters enjoying the swift of Trishuli and Marshyangdi Rivers on the way. After reaching Besi sahar, we change our ride from a bus to a local jeep and drive up to Syange which is approx. 30 km of dirt road. We stay overnight in Syange.
Our trekking journey begins today and we walk on the Annapurna circuit trekking trail. The trail goes higher along the Marshyangdi river valley towards Dharapani village. We can see some awesome landscapes on our trek today. As we walk further, we pass beautiful villages of Jagat, Chamje and reach Tal village on the bank of Marshyangdi River. We cross Marshyangdi River over a suspension bridge near Tal village; we ascend to Dharapani to stay overnight.
We are heading to Chame, on the second day of trekking on the beautiful Annapurna Circuit route. Mesmerizing views of Manaslu and Annapurna II makes our day joyous. Moreover, the landscape and the lifestyle of the people living in this region are eye-catching too. As we climb higher, we can see the change in vegetation. We take enough breaks along the way and eventually reach Chame village to stay overnight.
As we gain elevation on each day of our walk, we can feel the change in the landscape, vegetation and lifestyle. The trek of almost 6 hours will take us to the beautiful village of Pisang. Pisang village is the gateway for the Pisang Peak climbing adventure. On our stretch today, we can enjoy majestic views of Annapurna II and Manaslu from Chame and Annapurna IV and Lamjung Himal as we advance along the trail.
To avoid high altitude sickness it is very essential to take a rest and acclimatization day during our trip. The purpose of today’s rest day is to keep us both physically and mentally stable. In the place where we stay today, we can see fascinating Annapurna, Gangapurna, Tilicho and many other landscapes.
Today is the day we trek to Pisang peak base camp for our Pisang peak climbing adventure. We will be gaining over 1,000 metres of elevation when we reach the base camp. The path will pass through tiny villages, wooden parts and pastures. When we reach the base camp we will have plenty of time to soak into the atmosphere of the base camp and prepare ourselves for the hike to the summit. Strolling around to enjoy the charm of the place and to acclimatize with the growing elevation can be a good idea to spend the rest of the day.
Day nine is yet another day of big elevation gain, of another about 1,000 meters, when we trek up to the high camp. Today’s hike takes us up in the mountain where we plod up towards the destination for the day. After we reach the high camp, we settle into our camp and spend the day praising the views and nature and adjusting with the increasing elevation and decreasing level of oxygen in the air.
Today is the main day of the entire trip because we summit Pisang Peak. Therefore, we get ready early, much before the daylight breaks. The Pisang Peak Mountain is pyramid-shaped therefore the rocky face of the mountain profers a tough challenge to climb through. We might even need to use fixed ropes and the main rope to climb. After we strive and eventually reach the top, the view that is generated in the place is just spectacular. The mountains in the vicinity soaring high up in the sky are a mesmerizing view. We spend some time at the peak and start climbing down, as we have to stay overnight back in the base camp.
The eleventh day of our trip is going to be a contingency day. We keep this day as a reserve to compensate for any possible delays on the summit climb. We can continue our trek towards Manang if we chose not to use this day.
After hiking the most prominent section of the trek, we now head towards another interesting destination. The trail today passes through tiny and beautiful villages and wooded sections. After we reach Manang village we can have time to explore around the beautiful village.
After savoring our flavorsome breakfast in Manang, we get ready to leave the beautiful village and trek some very difficult sections of trail in the next few days. Our trek for the day will take us to Letdar Phedi as we walk past Manang village for about 6 hours. The views of the mountain landscapes this trail offers are going to be a completely different experience than that of the experience we did in lower elevation. We finally reach Letdar Phedi and stay overnight.
Today we trek for approx. 5 hours to reach Thorang High Camp. We will be gaining some altitude today. After walking for about 2 hours from Letdar Phedi we reach Thorang Phedi. At Thorang Phedi we take some good rest and proceed towards Thorang high camp. Another few hours of struggling uphill will reward us with a spectacular view of the mountains from the high camp and around.
Today is one of the demanding days of the trek as we have to cross the highest pass in the world – Thorang La pass which is located at an elevation of 5,416m. After passing through several false passes and climbing slowly and steadily we eventually pass through Thorang La pass. At the top of the pass, we spend some time to capture the great memories of the highest pass in the world. Later, we start climbing down towards Muktinath where there is a beautiful and sacred temple for Hindus. We can explore the Muktinath area as we reach there. We stay overnight.
Walking on the wonderful landscape of the lower Mustang region along the stretch of Muktinath we reach Jomsom. Initially, the trail descends to Kagbeni village which is situated in the bank of Kali Gandaki River. Then we pass through several beautiful places with a spectacular view. Onwards Kagbeni, we trek along the Kali Gandaki River to Jomson. As the Jomsom valley lies in between two gigantic mountain ranges of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna, the trail can get windy in the afternoon. Once we reach Jomsom, we stay overnight.
To reach Pokhara we can also continue trekking but this will add a whole lot of trekking days in our trip. Therefore, to make things simpler, we catch a flight to Pokhara from Jomsom and enjoy the whole day in Pokhara chilling around lakes and enjoying the beauty of the place.
Today, we can either drive back or fly back to Kathmandu, where a farewell dinner will be organized.
