Three passes trek is a trek to Everest Base Camp. This trekking destination is filled with challenging trails fit for experienced trekkers based on crossing high elevation passes. It is an exploration of Himalayan bodies like snow-capped mountains, the trail, the lifestyle of people living in that region, etc. it is known as the most challenging and rough trek as it crosses through three passes linking through four villages i.e. Bhotekoshi, Gokyo, Khumbu, and Imjatse. The three high passes are Renjo La which is at an elevation of 5388 meters, Cho La at an elevation of 5380 meters, and Kongma La at an altitude of 5535 meters. That trek also takes you to Everest Base Camp making it a fulfilling and incomparable trekking experience to you. The Himalayas aren’t only the attraction of this trek, you will observe rich Sherpa culture, local villages, their lifestyle, etc. there will be many stops in your way where you can rest and just enjoy the scenic view of the stunning Himalayas, the valley, glacier, landscapes, etc. three passes trek is a long route so you need to be experienced as well as fit at the same time. You will be walking on boulders, ice crevasses, zigzag and slippery frozen trail where you need to be a lot more conscious while walking. The climate might be challenging as per the season while moderate to strong wind blows time and again and of course the region is cold so you need to carry warm clothes with you. You will need personal necessities and well-equipped/ genuine trekking gear. Thus, there might be other things to explain but it is never enough until you go and experience it.
Your journey begins from a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. From Lukla, you will trek to Namche Bazaar which is popularly known as the gateway to Everest. You will rest for a rest as you adapt the air of a bit higher elevation and also have a quick visit to the Sherpa village, Khumjung. For two acclimatization nights, the eastern arm adds a hike up to Chhukhung and adds a walk to Chhukhung Ri or the Island Peak Base Camp for views over and beyond the Lhotse and Ama Dablam glaciers. There is a lodge for trekkers and those are in good condition. You will also be camping for some nights as there won’t be lodges or tea houses available in all regions. After then, you will head towards Everest base camp; back to Duglha and take the long route up to Cho La (5368 m) and a steep descent to Thangnak. Cross the Ngozumpa Glacier and head for Gokyo and take a rest day to climb Gokyo Ri for spectacular views of the longest Cho Oyo glacier in Nepal and the Everest range. While returning, you will head down towards the west as it has a steep ascent to Renjo La. After that, you descend to Marulung which provides you a vibrant landscape. The trail connects an old Tibetan salt trade route and continues to Thame. You will then trek back to Namche Bazaar to Lukla and return to Kathmandu.
