OVERVIEW
INTRODUCTION
Yala Peak Climbing route is one of the most adventurous routes in the Langtang region that includes the adventure of climbing and high altitude trekking in a single trip. This route is also one of the lowest trekking peaks to the beginner’s mountaineering trip in Nepal. Yala Peak is located very close to the Tibetan border. Therefore, the climbing trek is a perfect opportunity to experience the unique traditions of the people living in the mountainous areas of the country. You will also be able to learn a lot of things about Tibetan culture and traditions.
Yala Peak, once submitted, offers mesmerizing views of mountain peaks of Nepal and Tibet. This climbing trekking route is often regarded as a warm-up route for Naya Kanga on the opposite side of the valley.
We began our trek in Syabrubesi after a long day of the ride from Kathmandu. From Syabrubesi we start trekking into the beautiful regions of the Langtang National Park, before finally beginning our climb towards the Yala Peak. After summiting the Yala Peak, we retrace our trail towards the point where we started- Syabrubesi.
The trip comes to an end after 13 days of adventure and refreshment. The best seasons for the Yala Peak Expedition are spring and autumn. During these best seasons, the trail is a bit crowded. Therefore, you may also choose to complete this trail in the winter season to avoid the crowd in the region. There is no compromise in the scenery and amusement during the winter seasons as well. Rather, the weather is crisp and cold and the views of the mountains are crystal clear. We recommend avoiding trekking during the summer season, as the weather is quite unpredictable and if bad decisions are taken due to unpredictability, you may even not make it back.
ITINERARY
-
Day 01: Airport pickup and hotel transfer
Our Representative will be waiting for you at the airport and welcome you in our typical Nepali culture. You will be quickly arriving at the hotel afterward where you can expect luxurious accommodation. There will be a welcome dinner tonight and afterward a proper sleep which is much needed after the long trip from home. -
Day 02: Rest and Tour Day at Kathmandu
Today we will discuss our trekking and make necessary preparations and we will take a quick city tour of Kathmandu as well. After all the briefings regarding the trek and acquiring necessary permits, we will arrange a short trip to a few UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the city such as Pashupatinath Temple, Swayambunath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa and so on. A quick stroll in the streets of Kathmandu and last minute gear shopping is a perfect thing to do in the evening. -
Day 03: Drive to Syabrubesi (1,420m) – 8 Hours
Our drive which is going to be quite scenic starts after early morning breakfast. Our drive will be a comfortable bus. On our drive from the valley to Syabrubesi, we will be able to see rivers, terraced fields, villages, and sights of the snowy mountains on clear days. The start of our drive is relatively pleasant and comfortable until we reach Trishuli Bazaar. After that, the road becomes more rugged as it ascends to Dhunche. Finally, we reached Syabrubesi. Syabrubesi is a small town with much to explore including a riverside hot spring. -
Day 04: Trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2,480m) – 6 Hours
We initiated our first day on the trail from Syabrubesi. The path crosses the Bhotekoshi River and Langtang River and follows pleasantly up the rushing Langtang River through the fertile jungle and terraced fields. Our trail passes through rural settlements, bamboo, and birch grooves where we have a chance to spot rare, local wildlife including the red panda. The trail steadily climbs to reach Lama Hotel. We stayed overnight in Lama Hotel. -
Day 05: Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang Village (3,430m) – 6 Hours
We will be continuing our trek today alongside the river through the lush landscape as we ascend through dense forests. We can occasionally spot the snowy peaks on the way. The narrow river valley eventually widens out at Ghora Tabela. After walking for about 6 hours we will reach Langtang village. Langtang village is a large settlement of mostly Tamang people with a nearby monastery. We stayed overnight in Langtang village. -
Day 06: Trek from Langtang Village to Kyangjin Gompa (3,865m) – 3 Hours
Our route continues climbing as we pass through small villages and meadows. The trail also crosses several tributaries and a glacial moraine and then we arrive at the last and highest community of our journey. The place is known as Kyangjin Gompa. This place is named after the nearby ancient monastery of Kyangjin Gompa. As we reach Kyangjin Gompa quite early, we have options of either resting for the rest of the day or making a short afternoon climb to Kyajo Ri. Kyajo Ri is a spectacular viewpoint. Whatever we choose to do, we stay overnight in Kyangjin Gompa. -
Day 07: Acclimatization Day at Kyangjin Gompa
There are plenty of things to explore in Kyangjin Gompa. Therefore, we will spend the 7th day of our trip exploring the place. The village is situated in high elevation and offers many views and opportunities to approach the mountains and associated glaciers more closely. The number of things to see and activities to do in this place is plenty and the day will pass by quickly. Beyond the visits to the monastery and cheese factory, there is also an option to take a hike to Langhisa Kharka and the viewpoint of Tserko Ri(5,450m). We stayed overnight in Kyangjin Gompa. -
Day 08: Trek from Kyangjin Gompa to Yala Peak Base Camp (4,400m) – 6 Hours
The journey continues on the rocky glacier route. A walk of 6 hours will take us to the Yala Peak Base Camp, which will welcome us with the views of Ganchenpo, Naya Kang, Tserko Ri, Yala peak, and many other landscapes. The base camp itself is going to be rewarding and you will start wondering how the peak would be. -
Day 09: Trek from Yala Peak Base Camp to Yala Peak (5,732m) and back to Kyangjin Gompa – 8 Hours
The wait is finally over as we start our summit to Yala Peak early in the morning. There is a long day ahead waiting for us and demanding much effort from us. But, as we reach the top of the Yala Peak, you will be mesmerized by panoramic views of the mighty Himalayas including Shishapangma, Dorje Lakpa, Ganchenpo, Naya Kang, Tserko Ri, Langtang Lirung, and others. After enjoying plenty of time at the summit of Yala Peak, we head back towards our base camp. On reaching the base camp, we descend further to reach Kyangjin Gompa to spend our night there. -
Day 10: Spare Day for Bad weather situations
This day is kept in the itinerary for the worst-case scenario. In case there is any delay in our climb to the peak, due to bad weather conditions or any other adverse situations, this day can be used to compromise the delay. If not, we can continue trekking down to Lama Hotel. -
Day 11: Trek from Kyangjin Gompa to Lama Hotel (2,480m) – 6 Hours
We bid farewell to the upper highlands and began climbing down and out of the valley towards Lama Hotel. We will be retracing the path we hiked up a few days before. So, there is nothing new to see. We will just be seeing things from a different perspective. We have our lunch at Ghora Tabela and continue descending to Lama Hotel via dense forests of the river valley. We stayed overnight in Lama Hotel. -
Day 12: Trek from Lama Hotel to Syabrubesi (1,420m) – 5 Hours
This is the final day on our trekking route. The last day is obviously going to be pleasant and sad at the same time. We will be hiking along the Langtang River as we head down the beautiful valley. Our trail gradually descends through bamboo and birch and astounding landscape to cross the Langtang and Bhote Koshi Rivers to Syabrubensi. We stayed overnight at the starting point of our trekking journey. -
Day 13: Drive back to Kathmandu
As our trekking trail comes to an end, it marks the end of our trip as well. On our final day of the trip, we drive back to Kathmandu from Syabrubesi on the same road we drove into. As we reach Kathmandu, there will be a farewell dinner program waiting for us.
